The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issues a fresh three-day heat alert as the ongoing heatwave shows no signs of relenting, with the next 72 hours posing continued sweltering conditions starting from Monday.
In a statement signed by Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid, the BMD warns of potential discomfort due to moisture incursion, signaling the likelihood of increased heat intensity in the coming days.
Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid highlights, “Although some cloud cover has provided temporary relief, the heatwave is expected to regain intensity starting from Tuesday.”
This follows a prior heatwave alert spanning 72 hours, initiated on Friday.
The severity of the heatwave is particularly pronounced in Pabna and Chuadanga districts, categorized as a very severe heatwave by the BMD. Additionally, Rajshahi, Tangail, Jessore, and Kushtia districts experience severe conditions, while Rangpur, Barisal, and Mymensingh divisions, alongside parts of Dhaka, Khulna, Srimangal, and Chandpur districts, face mild to moderate heatwaves, as outlined in the latest met office bulletin.
The forecast indicates the continuation of the heatwave with little change expected over the next five days, beginning from 9 am on Monday.
Chuadanga registered the nation’s highest temperature at 42.2°C on Sunday, accompanied by 56mm of rainfall within 24 hours until 6 am on Monday.
The bulletin predicts the possibility of rain or thundershowers, potentially accompanied by gusty winds or hail in isolated areas of Mymensingh, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions. However, most regions across the country are anticipated to remain dry with occasional partly cloudy skies.
While a slight decrease in day temperatures is anticipated, night temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable. Stay updated for further developments and take necessary precautions to combat the intensifying heatwave.
