Ahead of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s much-anticipated maiden visit to Bangladesh, Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud unveiled plans for the signing of 11 pivotal agreements, comprising six agreements and five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two nations.
Scheduled for a two-day state visit starting Monday afternoon, the Emir’s arrival marks a significant milestone in the longstanding bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Qatar, as emphasized by Dr Hasan Mahmud during a briefing with reporters on Sunday.
In a gesture of honor, a park and a road will be named after the esteemed Emir during his visit, underscoring the warmth and cordiality of the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The agreements to be signed encompass diverse areas of cooperation, including the legal field, mutual investment promotion and protection, transfer of sentenced persons, double taxation avoidance, and prevention of fiscal evasion concerning income taxes, as well as collaboration in maritime transport.
Additionally, the MoUs are set to bolster cooperation in diplomatic training, sports and youth engagement, manpower employment, education, higher education, scientific research, and port development, with a focus on establishing the Bangladesh Qatar Joint Business Council to further enhance economic ties between the two countries.
