As the mercury climbs to unprecedented levels, Jessore emerges as the epicenter of scorching temperatures, recording the highest temperature in the country at a sweltering 42.6°C on Saturday.
The region has experienced a relentless heatwave, with temperatures surpassing 40.0°C for the past three consecutive days. Thursday saw temperatures soar to 40.4°C, followed by 41.0°C on Friday, culminating in the season’s peak temperature on Saturday afternoon.
According to reports from the local meteorological office, the highest temperature was recorded during the afternoon hours, indicative of the intensity of the heatwave gripping the region.
Meanwhile, neighboring Chuadanga also witnessed soaring temperatures, reaching a peak of 42.3°C on Saturday afternoon. Tahmina Nasrin, the weather observer at Chuadanga First Class Meteorological Observatory, highlighted the escalation of the heatwave to a very severe level following a prolonged period of intense heat.
The absence of rain exacerbates the heatwave, with Nasrin emphasizing that rainfall would significantly alleviate the soaring temperatures. However, current forecasts indicate no immediate relief in the form of precipitation. Nevertheless, the possibility of rain accompanying a storm remains, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the blistering conditions.
