Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) gears up for an extensive month-long dengue prevention campaign, slated to commence from April 22, announced Mayor Md Atiqul Islam.
Ahead of the Aedes mosquito breeding season, the program will span across all 54 wards, emphasized the mayor during a virtual coordination meeting held on Wednesday with ward councilors and relevant officials.
Mayor Atiqul Islam stressed the importance of collective efforts from councilors, officials, and employees to effectively implement preventive measures before the onset of the Aedes mosquito breeding period, aiming to curb dengue outbreaks.
In a bid to eliminate potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, such as abandoned polythene, chip packets, ice-cream cups, green coconut shells, unused vehicle tires, and other discarded items, DNCC plans to incentivize citizens by purchasing these items for cash.
Encouraging community participation, Mayor Atiqul Islam announced that individuals can exchange the mentioned items for cash at their respective ward councilor’s office, with specific pricing directives provided to the councilors for waste procurement.
