Get ready for the 115th edition of Chittagong’s iconic wrestling spectacle, “Jabbar er Boli Khela,” starting April 25th at its customary venue, Laldighi Maidan.
Chowdhury Farid, vice president of the fair committee, confirmed this exciting news, highlighting a three-day Boishakhi fair slated for April 24th to 26th. The festivities will kick off with a grand trophy and jersey unveiling, along with a press conference at the city corporation’s library building near Laldighi, scheduled for 5pm on Friday.
President of the Abdul Jabbar Memorial Wrestling Competition and the Boisakhi Mela Committee, Councillor Jaharlal Hazari, emphasized the event’s unbroken legacy since its inception in 1909, with only the 111th and 112th editions interrupted due to the Covid pandemic.
This traditional wrestling, introduced by local trader Abdul Jabbar Saodagar in the early 20th century, carries historical significance as a symbol of resistance against British colonial rule. The tournament, named in honor of Jabbar, has been a symbol of Chittagong’s heritage, fostering athleticism and cultural pride since its inception.
