Tamabil land port, a key trade and immigration hub in Sylhet, faces a two-day suspension of import-export and immigration activities.
Indian immigration authorities have verbally communicated to their counterparts at Tamabil that operations at the land port will cease on Thursday and Friday. This move is in observance of the 18th general election in India.
Runu Mia, the in-charge of Tamabil Immigration Police, affirmed this development on Wednesday, highlighting the absence of official correspondence regarding the closure.
India’s general election spans seven phases from April 19 to June 1, with the first phase scheduled for April 19. Notably, the constituencies adjacent to Tamabil land port, comprising two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya state, will participate in the initial phase of voting.
