Enhancing visa-related services for Bangladeshi citizens, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka has inaugurated a dedicated visa centre at the Prasad Trade Centre in Banani.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen officiated the opening ceremony, signaling a new era of convenience for visa applicants.
The establishment of the visa centre streamlines the process for general passport holders, eliminating the need to visit the embassy directly. However, diplomatic or official passport holders are still required to apply at the embassy.
Ambassador Yao Wen highlighted the burgeoning exchanges between Bangladesh and China across various sectors, leading to an increased demand for Chinese visas among Bangladeshi nationals.
Last year alone, an average of 1,500 Bangladeshis applied for Chinese visas daily, prompting the need for enhanced visa processing capabilities.
With the addition of the Dhaka centre, China has expanded its global footprint to 103 visa processing centres across 55 countries and regions, underscoring its commitment to facilitating international travel.
Furthermore, Ambassador Wen emphasized the success of transitioning the visa process online in Bangladesh, noting the efficiency gains since the launch of the Chinese online visa application system in June 2023.
In less than a year, the online platform has facilitated the issuance of nearly 44,000 visas of various types, showcasing its effectiveness in streamlining procedures.
Applicants can access detailed application instructions on the visa centre’s website, with fees applicable for processing and express services where applicable.
The visa centre operates from Sunday to Thursday, offering application and fee submission services from 9am to 3pm, with passport collection available from 9am to 4pm.
For ordinary passport holders, the process begins with online application submission followed by in-person processing at the visa centre, providing a seamless experience for visa applicants.
