Amid escalating tensions between the Myanmar military and an armed rebel group in Myanmar’s Rakhine region, 46 more members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) sought refuge in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
According to Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), this recent influx brings the total number of BGP members seeking shelter in Bangladesh to 260.
Previously, in February, 330 members of Myanmar security forces, including BGP, army personnel, and immigration officials, had also sought refuge in Bangladesh.
On February 15, these individuals were handed over to the BGP under strict security protocols.
