The disappearance of Shrikanta Nandi, the manager of Pubali Bank PLC’s Natun Bazar branch in Chandpur, has sent shockwaves as he allegedly absconded with more than Tk2.5 crores.
Shrikanta Nandi, 40, hailing from Ghagra village in Kachua upazila, stands accused of swindling Tk2.51 crore from bank customers, according to sources.
Following complaints from both the bank’s new manager and a customer, Chandpur Sadar model police station has initiated investigations, with Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam leading the inquiry.
One victim, Akbar Hossain Liton, recounted how Nandi borrowed Tk1.76 crore from him, purportedly for bank-related matters, only to vanish without depositing the funds.
Similarly, another customer named Maruf alleges that Nandi duped him of Tk75 lakh under the guise of promising higher returns.
The incident has prompted authorities to assure the public that internal transactions remain unaffected. Investigations are ongoing, with police committed to taking legal action upon further complaints.
As the case unfolds, concerns linger over the security of banking institutions and the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
