The National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads, and Railways (NCPSRR) has voiced strong condemnation against Faridpur Police and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for their alleged negligence in the tragic road crash on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the loss of 13 lives, sparking outrage and demands for accountability from the concerned authorities.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives, NCPSRR President Shahid Mia and General Secretary Ashish Kumar Day emphasized that both the police and the BRTA cannot evade responsibility for the accident. Despite regulations prohibiting the transportation of passengers on trucks, pickup vans, and freight-laden vehicles, the ill-fated vehicle was reportedly carrying 25-30 passengers from Faridpur’s Boalmari towards Dhaka.
The NCPSRR has demanded immediate compensation for the families of the deceased and comprehensive medical treatment for the injured victims, along with their proper rehabilitation post-treatment.
The fatal collision occurred earlier in the day when a bus belonging to Unique Paribahan, bound for Magura from Dhaka, collided head-on with a pickup van traveling towards Dhaka. Tragically, all 13 victims were passengers of the pickup van, with five of them belonging to the same family.
Of the injured, 11 lost their lives on the spot, while two succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital. The remaining injured individuals were swiftly transported to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMC) in Faridpur for urgent medical attention.
As investigations into the incident unfold, the NCPSRR remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and accountability for the victims and their families. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
