A blaze at the Kumargaon Power Plant has plunged parts of Sylhet city into darkness, disrupting power supply. The fire, which erupted around 9:15 am on Monday, was swiftly contained by firefighters by 10:30 am.
Sources from the Power Division indicate that the fire originated in an abandoned air filter within the water treatment plant of the Kumargaon 225MW Power Plant.
Mohammad Abdul Kadir, chief engineer of Sylhet divisional Bangladesh Power Development Board, reassured that the power plant narrowly avoided a major catastrophe.
Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury personally inspected the site following the incident. “We have been spared from a significant disaster by divine intervention. The cooperation of local residents and firefighters was instrumental in containing the fire,” he remarked.
