In a devastating turn of events, three young workers lost their lives on Sunday in Gutma village, Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, after suffocating while cleaning a septic tank without adequate protective measures.
The victims, Alam Miah (26), Samrat Miah (22), and Chunnu Mia (24), all residents of the upazila, were engaged in maintenance work at a construction site owned by Abdul Ahad.
The unfortunate incident unfolded around 9:30 am when the trio descended into the tank. With no communication from them for over an hour, Ahad promptly notified local authorities, including the police and fire service.
Officer-in-Charge Md Sohag Rana of Nasirnagar police station provided insights into the recovery operation, indicating that firefighters sequentially retrieved the bodies from the tank. Lack of oxygen within the confined space is believed to be the primary cause of death, he stated.
The bodies have been transferred to the police station pending the completion of necessary legal formalities before being released to the grieving families.
