Canadian aviation powerhouse, Cascade Aerospace, is gearing up to inaugurate a state-of-the-art aircraft repair facility, known in the industry as an MRO facility, in Bangladesh.
This strategic move is anticipated to bolster Bangladesh’s economy by conserving foreign currency reserves and nurturing a pool of proficient aviation professionals, highlights Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Canada, Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
MRO, short for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul, encompasses a spectrum of tasks crucial for ensuring aircraft safety and optimal performance.
Cascade Aerospace, renowned for its prowess in aerospace and defense contracting, boasts a workforce of over 650 skilled personnel supporting both military and civilian aircraft programs. Headquartered in Abbotsford, British Columbia, the company extends its operations to Trenton and Ottawa, Ontario.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, emphasizing the significance of this collaboration, reveals, “When I assumed office as the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Canada, I was entrusted with several missions, including fostering Dhaka-Canada air links and facilitating the establishment of an MRO facility.”
The proposed venture has already caught the attention of Bangladesh’s Air Force leadership, underscoring its potential to attract substantial Canadian investments. Envisioning the MRO facility as a hub for servicing both commercial and military aircraft, Dr. Khalilur expresses optimism about its role in maintaining Bangladesh’s fleet of IC-130 series aircraft, presently serviced by Cascade Aerospace.
The ambitious project is poised to find its home at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University in Lalmonirhat, complementing the university’s endeavors in aircraft engineering and innovation.
With aspirations to centralize aircraft repair and maintenance domestically, Dr. Khalilur stresses the pivotal role of the MRO facility in bolstering Bangladesh’s self-reliance and revenue generation through servicing aircraft from neighboring countries.
Acknowledging the preliminary agreement between the Bangladesh government and Cascade Aerospace, Dr. Khalilur urges swift action to translate this vision into a concrete reality, ensuring that discussions proceed seamlessly to bring this transformative initiative to fruition.
