Authorities have lifted the ban on traveling to Ruma, Bandarban, bringing relief to travelers.
Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Didarul Alam signed a notification on Friday, announcing the suspension of the ban.
According to the notification, the ban on tourist travel in Ruma upazila, enforced during a joint operation on April 9, has now been lifted.
Previously, the directive strictly prohibited jeep travel to tourist destinations and restricted tourists from visiting any spots, even via waterways.
Tourists were barred from booking hotel rooms or exploring any attractions in the upazila until the conclusion of the joint operation.
Earlier incidents included KNF members attacking Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank in Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila, resulting in the looting of Tk15,00,000 and Tk2,45,000 from Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank, respectively. Additionally, 14 weapons and ammunition were seized from police and Ansar members.
During the robbery, bank manager Nezam Uddin was abducted, and armed terrorists from KNF entered a nearby mosque, taking hostages and assaulting worshipers during Tarawi prayers.
Nine cases were filed in Ruma and Thanchi police stations regarding the incidents.
In the ongoing operation, joint forces have apprehended 58 individuals, including 20 women, and have remanded them to jail following court proceedings.
