Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has affirmed that while there are no specific threats of attacks during the upcoming Pohela Boishakh celebrations, security measures have been heightened in light of past incidents.
Commissioner Rahman conveyed these remarks to journalists following his inspection of security arrangements at Ramna Batamul on Saturday.
Highlighting the significance of Pohela Boishakh as an expression of the non-communal spirit of the Bangali nation, Commissioner Rahman noted the unfortunate history of interruptions and militant attacks during the event.
In response, law enforcement agencies have devised a comprehensive security plan, taking into account past occurrences, he explained.
Security surveillance will be intensified across event venues, with CCTV monitoring of entire areas and additional vigilance via watchtowers and drones. The Bomb Disposal Unit will be on standby to address any potential threats.
Furthermore, traffic management measures will be implemented in Dhaka University and Ramna areas starting from Saturday evening to ensure smooth proceedings during the festivities.
