Indigenous communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts have commenced the three-day-long Boisabi Utsab, marking the region’s grandest cultural celebration.
Boisabi, a culmination of indigenous festivities like “Biju,” “Bishu,” “Boisuk,” and “Sangrai,” symbolizes bidding farewell to the old year and embracing the new with a spectrum of colorful events.
Each tribe has its own name for the festival; “Phul Biju,” “Mul Biju,” and “Gojyapojya Din” mark the sequence of festivities, with rituals ranging from river flower offerings to traditional curry preparations.
In Rangamati, festivities commenced with flower floats on Kaptai Lake, while the Tripura community initiated celebrations at Garjantali Ghat, featuring cultural performances and traditional hospitality.
Dipankar Talukder MP graced the occasion in Rangamati, while Khagrachhari saw flower immersions in the Chengi River by the local Tripura community.
Meanwhile, in the capital, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry orchestrated the Boisabi Festival-2024, featuring a vibrant procession from the Sheikh Hasina Chittagong Hill Tracts Heritage Preservation and Research Centre to Ramna Park Lake, attended by senior officials and ministry employees. Secretary to the minister Md Mashiur Rahman inaugurated the event, symbolizing a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
