Chittagong witnessed a fire incident at an edible oil mill belonging to the S Alam Group in the Mojjartak area on Friday morning. The blaze, which was reported at 8:25 am, prompted the rapid deployment of nine units from various fire services, including Karnaphuli, Lamarbazar, Chandanpura, and Agrabad.
Efforts by the fire service led to the successful containment of the fire within an hour, with full extinguishment achieved by 9:20 am. Deputy Assistant Director Abdur Razzak of the Chittagong Region Fire Service highlighted the critical role of swift action in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent oil storage facilities, potentially exacerbating the situation.
Despite the prompt response, the cause of the fire and extent of damage remain unknown at this time. This incident follows a previous fire at S Alam Group’s sugar refinery warehouse along the Karnaphuli River on March 4, which required several days to fully extinguish.
