The historic Sholakia Maidan in Kishoreganj witnessed Bangladesh’s largest Eid congregation, gathering over 500,000 attendees under strict security protocols.
Marking its 197th Eid congregation, Sholakia Eidgah saw Maulana Shoaib Bin Abdur Rauf of Bazar Mosque leading the jamaat at 10 am on Thursday.
Despite the vast turnout, stringent security measures were implemented, prohibiting items like umbrellas, sticks, torches, or lighters for safety.
Overflowing crowds compelled many to join the congregation on streets, riverbanks, and nearby rooftops.
Additionally, a separate women’s Eid congregation took place at Sarjubala Government Girls High School grounds in the city.
Welcoming attendees, Eidgah Committee President Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh, and Kishoreganj Municipal Mayor Mahmud Parvez ensured a warm reception.
With memories of the 2016 terrorist attacks, unprecedented security arrangements were made, involving 1,116 policemen, 49 traffic officers, BGB platoons, RAB, Ansar members, and intelligence personnel.
Constant CCTV surveillance, watchtower monitoring by RAB and police, and a bomb disposal team from Dhaka underscored the meticulous security planning for the occasion.
