In a remarkable feat, the government has raked in a staggering Tk4.90 crore in toll revenue from vehicles traversing the Padma Bridge within a span of 24 hours, ending at 12 am on Tuesday.
Amirul Haidar Chowdhury, additional director of the Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA), revealed that a total of Tk4,90,67,050 was collected from 45,204 vehicles crossing the bridge during this timeframe, marking the highest toll collection amount to date.
This milestone surpasses the previous record set on June 27, where Tk4.60 crore was collected from approximately 43,137 vehicles.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the bridge on June 25, and it was opened for traffic the following day, marking a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s infrastructure development.
As of Tuesday, the BBA has amassed a total toll collection of Tk1454.14 crore from an estimated 18 million vehicles that have crossed the Padma Bridge.
