In the latest assessment, Dhaka’s air quality remains stagnant, marked as “unhealthy” on Tuesday morning, with an AQI score of 172 at 10:21 am. Ranking 6th globally for poor air quality, the city joins the ranks of metropolises grappling with pollution challenges.
Leading the list are Kuwait City, Kathmandu, and Chiang Mai, registering AQI scores of 223, 214, and 208 respectively. The classification of “unhealthy” underscores the persistent struggle against pollution in the region.
As per standard classifications, an AQI value between 101 and 150 signifies “unhealthy for sensitive groups”, while between 151 and 200 is simply deemed “unhealthy”. Dhaka’s air quality, affected by particulate matter, NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone, reflects a broader environmental concern.
Despite periodic fluctuations, Dhaka’s air quality crisis persists beyond seasons, with the city’s winter air often deteriorating and temporary improvements seen during the monsoon.
