A staggering 43,427 vehicles traversed the Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail within a mere 24-hour period, from midnight to noon on Tuesday, amassing an impressive Tk3,03,66,850 in toll revenue.
As per reports from the Bangabandhu Bridge Authority, 27,232 vehicles journeyed towards the northern regions, contributing to a toll collection of Tk1,71,49,500. Simultaneously, 16,195 vehicles bound for Dhaka added to the toll, totaling Tk1,32,61,900.
Ahsanul Pavel, the executive engineer of the Bangabandhu Bridge Division, highlighted the installation of 18 toll booths on both ends of the bridge to alleviate traffic congestion.
However, despite efforts to streamline traffic flow, a sprawling 14-kilometer traffic jam has brought the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway to a grinding halt, extending from the bridge to Pauli in Kalihati upazila of Tangail.
Police authorities attribute this gridlock to a surge in traffic volume compounded by several vehicle breakdowns, causing significant inconvenience to travelers and commuters amid the bustling Eid season.
