The arrest of Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) central committee Chief Coordinator, Cheosim Bom, sent shockwaves through Bandarban as Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) took him into custody in Darban.
Cheosim Bom, hailing from Sharan Para area, Ward No 6, Sualak Union Parishad, was apprehended from his residence in Sharonpara, Sualak Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila on Sunday. Bom’s influence extended across areas like Jurvarang Para, Khamtang Para, Painkhiang, and Raunin Para, where he spearheaded KNF activities. The arrest led to the recovery of 2 air guns, as per information shared by RAB-15. Notably, Bom was found hiding in a cupboard within his room at the time of arrest.
The association between Cheosim Bom and KNF chief Nathan Baum was highlighted, shedding light on their alleged dealings. It was disclosed that a Tk3 lakh contract was signed by KNF with militant leader Shamim Mahfuz, aimed at training members of Jamaatul Ansar Phil Hindal Sharqiya, with the agreement signed at Bom’s residence.
RAB officials further revealed the organizational trajectory of KNF, tracing its origins from the formation of Kuki-Chin National Development Organization in Bandarban. This trajectory culminated in KNF’s current stature, marked by recent events like the armed attack in Ruma Upazila, where government officials and civilians were targeted, bank properties looted, and individuals kidnapped, accentuating the gravity of KNF’s activities in the region.
