Chuadanga District Faces Sweltering Heatwave, Records Highest Temperature in Bangladesh for 2024
Chuadanga district finds itself in the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring to a scorching 41.2°C on Saturday, marking the highest recorded temperature in Bangladesh this year.
Altaf Hossain, the observer at Chuadanga Weather Observatory, confirmed that this peak temperature was observed at 3 pm, signifying the most extreme heat of the season.
In addition to Saturday’s record, the district experienced consistently high temperatures, reaching 38.2°C at noon on both Friday and Saturday, indicating a relentless surge in heat levels.
Hossain highlighted the persistent mild to severe heatwave in Chuadanga since the beginning of April, exacerbated by high humidity levels intensifying the heat’s impact.
Warning of continued high temperatures in the days ahead, Hossain expressed concerns about a potential escalation of the heatwave later this month, especially with no signs of rainfall forecasted. Residents of Chuadanga are feeling the brunt of these extreme conditions, compounded by the fasting period of Ramadan.
Many locals are choosing to remain indoors, venturing out only when necessary due to the unbearable heat. Mithun Mia, a battery-run three-wheeler driver, lamented the challenges faced by the community, citing difficulties in operating vehicles and decreased passenger demand ahead of Eid.
Meanwhile, in Pabna district, a high temperature of 40°C was recorded around 3 pm on Saturday, as reported by Nazmul Huq, observer at Ishwardi Weather Office, following a temperature of 39°C recorded on April 1.
The Chuadanga Weather Observatory underscores the district’s struggle with the unprecedented heatwave, having consistently registered the country’s highest temperatures for the past 13 consecutive days since April 2, when a temperature of 33.4°C was recorded.
