In a move to alleviate healthcare costs, Bangladesh witnesses a significant reduction in the prices of 23 types of stents or heart rings utilized in treating heart diseases.
The Directorate General of Drug Administration made this announcement through a press release signed by the director (Administration) on Tuesday, highlighting the outcome of discussions between the director general of the Department of Drug Administration, European heart ring manufacturing companies, and interventional cardiologists in Bangladesh.
The price adjustments reflect considerable savings for patients. Notable reductions include the Poland-made Alex Plus brand stent now priced at Tk60,000 from Tk80,000, and the German Coroflex ISAR brand stent at Tk53,000 from Tk59,119.
Furthermore, Switzerland’s Orsiro brand stent will now cost Tk63,000 instead of Tk76,000, while the price of South Korea’s Genoss DES brand stents drops to Tk56,000 from Tk65,500.
Indian-made stents also see price cuts, with the Metaphor brand stent now priced at Tk40,000 from Tk48,000, offering substantial relief to patients.
Similarly, stents from the US, Singapore, Spain, Japan, and the Netherlands have witnessed price reductions, making healthcare more accessible and affordable for those in need.
This latest price revision comes after earlier adjustments in October 2023 and December 2023, reflecting ongoing efforts by regulatory authorities to ensure equitable access to healthcare services. With reductions ranging from 40-45% depending on the type, patients can now undergo treatment with reduced financial burden, enhancing accessibility to life-saving medical interventions.
