Wednesday marked the beginning of the Eid-ul-Fitr exodus for Dhaka residents, as they commenced their journeys to hometowns and villages via train, armed with advance tickets to reunite with loved ones for the holidays.
The day’s first departure, Dhumketu Express (769), set off for Rajshahi promptly at 6am, initiating the wave of travelers. Following closely, Parjatak Express (816) bound for Cox’s Bazar, though slightly delayed, departed at 6:20am, while the Sylhet-bound Parabat Express (709) left Dhaka at 6:34am.
At Kamalapur Railway Station, where all tickets were pre-booked online, there was no overwhelming rush. Railway authorities ensured thorough checks to prevent ticketless travel, employing two-step verification processes where passengers’ tickets were scanned before entry.
Passengers presented tickets either in paper form or via mobile phones, streamlining the boarding process. Law enforcement personnel stationed at temporary booths ensured passenger safety throughout the Eid journey.
While passengers appreciated the convenience of online ticket sales, they urged authorities to prioritize punctuality in train departures.
Station Master Md Anwar Hossain affirmed the collective effort to facilitate a seamless Eid journey for passengers. With tickets sold out until April 9, sales for subsequent dates will hinge on moon sighting for April 10, 11, and 12 journeys.
