Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has taken decisive action against the persistent mosquito problem by announcing the establishment of a cutting-edge laboratory dedicated to mosquito research.
Inaugurating the program on Saturday, Mayor Chowdhury expressed confidence in the lab’s potential to tackle the mosquito menace plaguing Chittagong city. He envisioned a significant reduction in mosquito prevalence within a week, marking a crucial milestone in the city’s battle against mosquitoes.
Highlighting the innovative approach undertaken, Mayor Chowdhury emphasized the collaboration with experts from Chittagong University to develop advanced mosquito repellents. These repellents, meticulously crafted under scientific guidance, are being deployed across all 41 wards of the city. However, certain areas, notably Halishahar, continue to face challenges despite regular treatment.
Acknowledging the need for tailored solutions, Mayor Chowdhury outlined plans to conduct comprehensive laboratory tests on mosquito larvae collected from each ward. These tests aim to evaluate the efficacy of different insecticides against diverse mosquito species, enabling targeted interventions based on research findings.
Revealing further details, CCC Public Relations Officer Aziz Ahmed disclosed plans to inaugurate the laboratory on the eighth floor of the temporary CCC building in Tigerpass by April, underscoring the city’s commitment to proactive mosquito control measures.
Simultaneously, mosquito control operations have commenced in Maheshkhaal, adjacent to Failatali Bazar in Halishahar, reaffirming Mayor Chowdhury’s unwavering dedication to combatting mosquitoes across the city’s wards until the advent of the monsoon season.
Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury’s visionary initiative heralds a new era in mosquito management, leveraging scientific research and strategic interventions to safeguard public health and enhance the quality of life for Chittagong residents.
