In a proactive move, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has called upon the relevant authorities to promptly remove cable TV lines and internet cables from buildings situated along the Metro Rail Line-6 corridor.
Issuing a stern warning, DMTCL emphasized the necessity of removing these cables within a strict deadline of 24 hours. Failure to comply will result in the initiation of appropriate legal measures, as stated in the official communication.
The letter, bearing the signature of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-6) Project Director, Md Aftabuddin Talukder, was dispatched to the President of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB), ABM Saiful Hossain, and the President of the Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), Md Emdadul Haque, on Thursday.
Highlighting the criticality of the situation, the letter outlined how cable TV lines and internet cables have been haphazardly connected to numerous buildings along the viaduct and overhead catenary system of the MRT 6 route alignment.
Preliminary surveys reveal that approximately 51 buildings currently possess such connections, posing a grave risk of accidents if any cable were to rupture and fall onto the high-capacity metro rail’s infrastructure.
The DMTCL’s proactive stance underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of the Metro Rail Line-6 project, emphasizing the urgency of compliance with safety regulations. Stay tuned for updates on this developing situation.
