A recent survey sheds light on the evolving preferences of metro rail commuters, with a significant 52% now opting for personal passes over single tickets for their daily travels. This shift signifies a departure from the traditional reliance on individual tickets, highlighting the growing convenience and efficiency offered by personalized travel passes.
MAN Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), unveiled these findings during a press briefing at the DMTCL headquarters in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. He noted that while single tickets remain prevalent, the rising adoption of Rapid Pass or MRT Pass reflects commuters’ desire for seamless and hassle-free journeys.
Addressing the evolving transportation needs of passengers, DMTCL announced plans to extend metro rail service hours beyond 9 PM, commencing from Wednesday. This decision aims to accommodate the increasing demand for late-night travel options, ensuring enhanced accessibility and convenience for commuters across Dhaka.
Under the extended service hours, the last train departing from Motijheel will now operate until 9:40 PM, while the final train from Uttara will leave at 9:20 PM. With trains scheduled to run every 12 minutes during the extended period, the service expansion will see an addition of 10 more trains to the existing schedule, ultimately increasing the total number of daily trips from 184 to 194.
