Two Bangladeshi NGOs, Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute, and JAAGO Foundation Trust, have received a grant totaling $306,692 from the government of Japan.
In a ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan, Ambassador Iwama Kiminori signed the grant contracts for the Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) with the respective organizations on Sunday.
Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute has been allocated $83,424 to enhance the medical infrastructure for treating haematological diseases in Dhaka district.
This government-funded hospital is set to procure and install essential medical equipment, including a Refrigerated Centrifuge Machine, a Plasma Storage Freezer, and an Automated Aphaeresis Machine, to cater to children suffering from conditions such as blood cancer and thalassemia.
On the other hand, JAAGO Foundation Trust has been granted $223,268 for the construction of a modern school building in Bandarban, aimed at providing free quality education to underprivileged children and fostering youth leadership.
The project will replace the existing temporary wooden structure with a 2-storied reinforced concrete building, facilitating education up to the secondary school level.
Since 1989, Japan has supported 217 NGO projects through its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP), reflecting its commitment to enhancing economic and social human security at the grassroots level.
The total GGHSP grants extended to NGOs in Bangladesh now stand at approximately $17.2 million, as confirmed by the Embassy.
