Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) responds to the growing need for late-night transportation by announcing an extension of metro rail service hours beyond 9 pm, effective from Wednesday onwards.
The development comes as DMTCL Managing Director MAN Siddique is set to unveil comprehensive details about this service expansion during a press briefing scheduled for Tuesday.
Insiders from DMTCL reveal that under the extended hours, the last train departing from Motijheel will now leave at 9:40 pm, while from the Uttara end, it will depart at 9:20 pm. This enhancement will introduce trains operating every 12 minutes during the extended service period, augmenting the current schedule by 10 additional trains.
With this extension, the total number of daily trips will rise from 184 to 194.
Presently, the Dhaka metro rail operates from 7 am to 8:40 pm, featuring trains at eight-minute intervals during peak hours (7 am to 11:30 am and 2 pm to 8 pm) and 12-minute intervals during off-peak hours (11 am to 2:30 pm).
This expansion initiative aims to elevate the commuting experience for Dhaka’s residents, offering a more adaptable and accessible transportation solution during evening hours.
