In response to the recent deaths of five individuals due to fever, hemoptysis, and abdominal pain since January, a specialized medical team has initiated door-to-door treatment in Thega Chandabi Ghat village of Bhushanchhara union, Barkal upazila, Rangamati.
Led by Dr. Mong Kyshing Sagar, Barkal Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, a dedicated seven-member medical team has been deployed, divided into three groups, to provide immediate healthcare support starting Thursday.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Nihar Ranjan Nandi emphasized the urgency, stating that the team is actively diagnosing symptoms and providing necessary treatments. He identified a potential gastrointestinal disease based on observed symptoms, stressing the importance of timely medical intervention over traditional remedies.
Concerned officials, including Preeti Shankar Dewan, member of Bhushanchhara union parishad, and Shiv Ratan Chakma, the village head, highlighted the prevailing fear among the 86 families residing in Thega Chandabi Ghat due to widespread illness. They pointed out the absence of nearby medical facilities, amplifying the urgency for immediate intervention.
Meanwhile, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Forkan Anupam Elahi assured ongoing monitoring by the upazila administration, with additional support from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) due to the area’s proximity to the border.
