In preparation for Ramadan, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has announced plans to acquire 8,000 tons of lentils and 10,000 tons of sugar for its Open Market Sale (OMS) initiative.
Approval for these procurements came during a recent meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchases (CCGP), chaired by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali. The Ministry of Commerce presented the proposals on behalf of TCB.
Under these proposals, TCB will source 8,000 tons of lentils from Agrigo Trading Ltd in India, amounting to Tk76.64 crore through an open tender process. Each kilogram of lentils is estimated to cost Tk100.80.
Additionally, TCB will acquire 10,000 tons of sugar directly from the state-owned Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) through the Direct Purchase Method (DPM), with each kilogram priced at Tk160.
These procurements are part of TCB’s efforts to ensure an adequate supply of essential food items during the upcoming month of Ramadan, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting citizens during this significant period.
