Princess Victoria of Sweden, renowned UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, undertook a poignant journey to the Cox’s Bazar Ukhiya Rohingya camp on Wednesday.
Her arrival, via a helicopter from the Bangladesh Army stationed in Noakhali’s Bhasan Char around 1:30pm, was met with a warm reception by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahin Imran, Police Superintendent Mahfuzur Rahman, and distinguished officials from the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka.
Upon reaching the Rohingya camp, Princess Victoria embarked on a compassionate mission, commencing with a visit to the World Food Program and UNHCR e-voucher outlets, facilitating registration and food distribution at the Camp 4 extension.
Dedicating her time to engage with the community, she interacted with Rohingya women at the Multi-Purpose Women’s Centre, a commendable initiative by UN Women and UNFPA situated at Camp 4.
Continuing her noble endeavor, she participated in a skill development training program orchestrated by UNHCR at Camp 5, witnessing the artisanal craftsmanship involved in bakery and jute product processing, while fostering meaningful interactions with the industrious women involved in these activities.
Expressing her solidarity, Princess Victoria also paid a visit to the Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre, acknowledging and honoring the resilience of the community.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Princess Victoria inaugurated the Smart Service Point of Post Office in Koyra, Khulna, championing digital inclusion and equitable access to public services.
Her visit to Bangladesh, spanning from Monday to Thursday, marked her return after nearly two decades since her initial visit in 2005. During this time, she dedicated three days to oversee Swedish development cooperation in the northwestern regions of Bangladesh.
Appointed as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador in October 2023, Princess Victoria remains dedicated to raising awareness and fostering engagement for the Sustainable Development Goals, advocating for a future where no one is left behind.
