In a heartbreaking development, the death toll from the Gazipur cylinder blast tragedy has climbed to 13, as two more individuals lost their lives to injuries sustained in the incident.
The latest victims have been identified as Yasin Arafat, 21, from Gopak village of Khoksa upazila, Kushtia, and Moshiur Rahman, 26, from Parulia village in Hatibandha upazila, Lalmonirhat. Arafat passed away at 7:30pm, followed by Moshiur at 9:05pm while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery.
Confirming the fatalities, resident doctor Md Tariqul Islam revealed that Arafat suffered from 62% burn injuries, while Moshiur had 60% burn injuries.
Arafat, a bus helper with Taqwa Paribahan, resided in the Topstar area of Kaliakair in Gazipur and encountered the blast while returning home. Moshiur, on the other hand, worked in a garment factory and was returning from work when the tragic incident occurred.
Currently, 15 other individuals continue to receive medical treatment for their injuries.
The catastrophic blast, which occurred on March 13 in a shanty town of Shafiqul Islam Shafiq in Kaliakair, Gazipur, left a total of 35 people injured. Among the injured, one patient suffered 100% burns, three were admitted with 95% burns, and 16 others sustained over 50% burns, according to hospital sources.
