Efforts to address the aftermath of the Comilla train derailment saw significant progress on Tuesday morning as four out of the nine derailed bogies of the Bijoy Express were successfully removed from Nangalkot.
Saiful Islam, the divisional manager of Chittagong Eastern Railway, confirmed the removal of four bogies, highlighting that the process is ongoing. However, he noted that it would take approximately two more days to clear the remaining five bogies and repair the damaged rail tracks.
The rescue and repair operations have necessitated the suspension of train movement on the down line for several hours, disrupting the regular schedule of train services, Saiful Islam added.
The derailment occurred on Sunday when nine bogies of the Jamalpur-bound Bijoy Express, traveling from Chittagong, veered off the tracks at Tejer Bazar in Nangalkot, resulting in injuries to several individuals.
After extensive efforts, train operations on the down line resumed 14 hours following the derailment early on Monday, marking a crucial step in restoring normalcy to the affected railway services.
