Railway Minister Md Zillul Hakim has announced robust measures to combat the black market sale of tickets ahead of Eid, deploying intelligence agencies for surveillance.
In a proactive move to curb ticket scalping, Minister Hakim highlighted the integration of intelligence agencies with Shohoz.com, enhancing efforts to thwart illicit ticket sales.
Speaking during a discussion session with local administration officials, public representatives, and civil society representatives in Rajbari’s Baliakandi upazila on Monday afternoon, Minister Hakim stressed the importance of stringent enforcement against ticket scalpers.
Elaborating on the new initiatives, he stated, “We will implement rigorous verification procedures, including cross-referencing mobile numbers associated with each ticket. Any discrepancies in ticket sales will face severe penalties.”
Addressing concerns regarding potential fare increases, Minister Hakim refuted rumors, affirming, “There are no immediate plans to raise train fares. Allegations suggesting otherwise are baseless rumors. We remain vigilant against those who propagate misinformation, engage in acts of arson, and sabotage railway infrastructure. Such malicious activities are attributed to BNP. The recent tragic train fire incident in Gopibagh, resulting in loss of lives, underscores the gravity of these actions. The individual responsible for igniting the fire has confessed to the crime.”
Minister Hakim’s decisive measures underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring fair and transparent ticket distribution processes, safeguarding passenger interests during the upcoming Eid festivities.
