The music industry mourns the loss of iconic band singer Khalid, who breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital due to a sudden heart attack on Monday evening. Aged 60, Khalid’s untimely demise has left a void in the hearts of his fans and colleagues alike.
Confirming the sad news, lyricist and composer Prince Mahmud revealed that Khalid passed away at Comfort Hospital in Panthapath at 7:15 pm.
Reports suggest that Khalid fell ill due to a cardiac arrest at his residence in Panthapath during iftar time, before being rushed to the hospital where he was declared deceased.
The revered singer’s namaj-e-janaza is scheduled to take place at Green Road Jam-e-Mosque at 11 pm on Monday, followed by his burial at the family graveyard in Gopalganj, as stated by music producer and sound engineer Isha Khan Duray.
Renowned for his melodious hits like “Shorolotar Protima,” “Himaloy,” and “Kono Karonei,” Khalid rose to prominence in the music scene during the 90s and 2000s, leaving an indelible mark with his soulful voice.
As the vocalist of the band “Chime,” Khalid’s musical journey began in 1983, captivating audiences with his enchanting performances.
Survived by his wife and son residing in the USA, Khalid’s passing has deeply affected his friends and bandmates. Aly Sumon, Khalid’s companion from Chime, expressed profound grief over the loss, highlighting Khalid’s unparalleled talent and popularity in the industry.
Sumon reminisced, “It’s a huge loss for our industry. He was one of the finest singers in the scene, at the top of his popularity in late 80s, early 90s with the band.”
“He was in the US for a long time. His family is still there. When he got sick, the caretakers took him to the hospital. We didn’t know he was this sick. He hung out with our friends even the day before yesterday,” Sumon added.
Born in Gopalganj, Khalid embarked on his musical journey in 1981, captivating audiences with his mesmerizing voice and leaving behind a legacy that will endure through his timeless melodies.
