Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) gears up for Eid-ul-Fitr by incorporating 550 more buses into its service fleet.
Ahead of the festive season, BRTC has strategized to enhance its transport capacity, ensuring smooth travel experiences for passengers commuting from Dhaka to various destinations across the country.
The decision to augment the fleet was reached during a productive discussion held at the BRTC headquarters in Motijheel, convened on Monday morning.
Chairman Md Tajul Islam outlined the organization’s Eid operational plan, stating, “From our existing pool of 600 buses in Dhaka, 550 will be dedicated to Eid service, facilitating seamless travel for holidaymakers. The remaining 50 buses will continue their routine city operations. Furthermore, our long-distance buses will operate as usual to accommodate the surge in travelers during the extended Eid holiday.”
Highlighting the organizational progress, Md Tajul Islam shared insights into BRTC’s fleet management, indicating a significant reduction in leased vehicles. “Presently, only 34 of our fleet vehicles are leased. We have ceased leasing arrangements,” he affirmed.
Providing a snapshot of BRTC’s operational efficacy over recent years, Md Tajul Islam elucidated, “In 2020, out of 1,825 buses, 885 were in service. This figure rose to 1,106 out of 1,762 buses in 2021. Similarly, in 2022, 1,233 out of 1,350 buses were operational, followed by 1,253 out of 1,350 buses in 2023.”
The proactive measures undertaken by BRTC underscore its commitment to enhancing public transportation services, ensuring convenience and accessibility for citizens during festive periods and beyond.
