In a swift operation spanning three days, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company have severed over 11,300 unauthorized gas connections across various areas of Munshiganj district. Led by Managing Director Md Harunur Rashid Mollah, the Titas Gas team conducted rigorous inspections targeting illegal connections in Moddho Baushia, Baktarkandi, Bhaberchar, and other locations.
The disconnected lines, totaling approximately 34km in length, served 11,300 households, three casting factories, five restaurants, and 59 tea stalls. Each connection was permanently severed at its source point, as confirmed by Titas Gas officials. The crackdown was carried out in collaboration with executive magistrates from the Munshiganj district administration, utilizing mobile courts to enforce compliance.
Despite having over 2.8 million consumers across its operational areas, Titas Gas continues to combat illegal connections, which are estimated to exceed 300,000. Most of these unauthorized connections are concentrated in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Munshiganj, and Manikganj. Allegations suggest collusion between certain Titas Gas personnel and local representatives facilitating the ongoing presence of illegal connections, despite repeated enforcement efforts.
