Today, the DNCC held an auction for an unauthorized ten-story building erected on the Ramchandrapur canal land, fetching Tk 60,000. Motakabbir Ahmed, executive officer of Zone-5, oversaw the public auction on March 13, instructing the highest bidder to dismantle the structure by March 23 and clear the debris within 10 days.
The demolition process began on March 14, as per a press release. Motakabbir stated that approximately 80 percent of the building encroached upon the Ramchandrapur canal land. On February 23, this portion was demolished in the presence of DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam.
Despite the building owner’s request for a seven-day extension to demolish the structure, they failed to comply within the stipulated time frame. Motakabbir affirmed that the auction adhered to established protocols and received the owner’s consent.
