The much-anticipated announcement of the recipients of the Independence Award (Swadhinata Padak) for 2024 has been made by the government, recognizing the remarkable contributions of 10 individuals at the national level.
Issuing a press release, the Cabinet Division unveiled the names of the distinguished awardees on Friday, symbolizing their outstanding and meritorious achievements across various domains.
Among the recipients, three luminaries will be honored in the Independence and Liberation War category, including Kazi Abdus Sattar, freedom fighter Flight Sergeant Md Fazlul Haque (posthumous), and freedom fighter Shaheed Abu Naeem Najib Uddin Khan (posthumous), commemorating their unwavering commitment to the nation’s liberation struggle.
In the realm of Science and Technology, Dr Mubarak Ahmad Khan will be bestowed with the prestigious accolade, while Mohammad Rafiquzzaman will be recognized for his notable contributions to Literature and Firoza Khatun for her prowess in Sports.
Dr Harishankar Das will receive the esteemed award in the Medical category, acknowledging his exemplary service to healthcare.
In the domain of Social Services, Oronno Chiran, freedom fighter Dr Md Obaidullah Baki, and SM Abraham Lincoln will be honored for their significant impact on society.
Each recipient will be presented with an illustrious 18-carat gold medal weighing 50 grams, along with Tk3 lakh and a certificate, as a token of appreciation for their remarkable endeavors.
The Independence Award holds profound significance as the highest state honor in Bangladesh, bestowed annually since 1977 on the occasion of Independence Day, commemorated on March 26th.
