In a bid to counter the escalating food prices, Benapole port welcomed the arrival of 200 tons of potatoes from India via the Petrapole port, transported in eight trucks on Thursday.
Port Director Rezaul Karim officially confirmed the potato import, marking a significant effort to stabilize the market.
This recent shipment follows a previous delivery on December 2, which saw 74 tons of potatoes imported in three trucks. The importing entity, Integrated Food and Beverage, has collaborated with PepsiCo India Holdings as the exporter, as per port authorities.
Facilitating the clearance process, Transmarine C&F Agent, a company, has duly submitted the requisite documentation for processing the consignment at the port.
Representing the C&F agent, Masum Billah disclosed that the import cost per metric ton of potato amounts to $194, ensuring affordability amidst market fluctuations. Billah further assured that the consignment will undergo clearance procedures by the forthcoming Sunday.
Highlighting the significance of this import, Benapole Land Port Director Rezaul Karim reiterated that this marks the second batch of potatoes imported through Benapole Port, underscoring the collaborative efforts to expedite the clearance process for importers.
