A fire erupted in a six-storey building located in Dhaka’s Hatirpool area on Thursday evening, revealing a distressing detail – the building lacks windows.
Four individuals were rescued from the building’s rooftop after 7 pm, with seven fire service units deployed to combat the blaze. Talha bin Jaim, media cell officer of the fire service headquarters, confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune, attributing the fire’s origin to a carpet warehouse on the second floor.
Despite efforts to contain the fire, its cause remains undetermined. Complicating rescue operations, the absence of windows necessitates breaking down walls for access.
Although the fire’s intensity has diminished, complete control has not been achieved, with smoke still billowing from the structure. Firefighters, equipped with oxygen masks and firefighting gear, continue to enter the building to conduct rescue missions.
News of the fire has drawn crowds to the scene, including concerned citizens and nearby shop owners and employees, reflecting the community’s solidarity during emergencies.
