Hungary has expressed keen interest in hiring skilled engineers and workers who have contributed to the construction of Bangladesh’s Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP). This move comes as Hungary collaborates with Russian assistance to build two new nuclear power plants in their country.
The request for recruitment was formally made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to his Bangladeshi counterpart, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, in a recent discussion between the two nations.
A diplomatic source, opting for anonymity, revealed, “Hungary is actively seeking to employ experienced engineers and workers from Bangladesh who have played pivotal roles in the development of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The request underscores Hungary’s interest in harnessing the expertise of those familiar with Russian technology, as applied in Bangladesh.”
Addressing any potential concerns about Bangladesh’s stance on this matter, the diplomat asserted, “Following the completion of the Rooppur project, there should be no impediment to sending skilled individuals abroad.”
Bangladesh’s nuclear power plant project involves substantial cooperation with Russia and engages a considerable workforce of skilled Bangladeshi engineers and workers.
Beyond the employment proposal, Hungary aims to strengthen economic ties with Bangladesh by seeking agreements on double taxation and investment protection. Officials, preferring anonymity, disclosed Hungary’s interest in two preliminary agreements as part of their increased economic cooperation.
In another development, Hungary, being an EU member, has pledged support to Bangladesh in obtaining Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP+) benefits post-2029, emphasizing the positive economic collaboration between the two nations.
