With the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, concerns arise regarding iftar arrangements for commuters traveling via metro rail, where food consumption is restricted.
In response to this concern, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has addressed the issue by permitting commuters to break their fast with water during iftar time while traveling on the metro rail. Each passenger is allowed to carry up to 250ml of water for iftar.
This significant announcement was made during a press conference held by MAN Siddique, the Managing Director of DMTCL, at the company’s meeting room in Eskaton on Sunday afternoon. He emphasized the importance of responsibly disposing of water bottles in designated garbage boxes at the stations or carrying them out upon disembarking.
MAN Siddique urged passengers to exercise caution while consuming water to prevent any potential accidents or damage to the metro train floors.
Additionally, DMTCL unveiled the revised schedule for metro rail operations during Ramadan. While the timings remain unchanged for the initial 15 days of Ramadan, there will be an extension of train services by one hour from both ends during the last 15 days. Notably, the last metro train from Uttara will depart at 9:20 pm, while the final train from Motijheel will leave at 9:40 pm.
Currently, the last metro train from Uttara to Motijheel departs at 8 pm, and the last metro train from Motijheel to Uttara departs at 8:40 pm. These adjustments aim to accommodate the Ramadan schedule and ensure convenience for commuters during the holy month.
