In a significant development, the First Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, commonly referred to as the Postogola Bridge, spanning the Buriganga river, opened for vehicular movement from 6 am this Saturday. The reopening follows the successful completion of crucial renovation works on this vital entry point to Dhaka.
Repair operations have been finalized, with a meticulous load test currently underway, expected to conclude overnight, as confirmed by relevant officials.
Commencing repairs on February 22, the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) took proactive measures to restrict heavy vehicles, including trucks, pickup vans, covered vans, and lorries, from accessing the bridge during the renovation period. Additionally, the bridge was temporarily off-limits to buses, microbuses, cars, and various other vehicles in different phases.
The RHD has disclosed that the repair and retrofitting efforts primarily focused on two girders of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Buriganga Bridge-1. With the imminent reopening, commuters can look forward to smoother and safer travel through this strategic gateway into Dhaka. Stay tuned for the latest updates on this significant transportation development.
