The State Minister for Commerce, Ahasanul Islam Titu, announced that the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is set to distribute six essential food items to 10 million families during the upcoming Ramadan season.
In a directive to deputy commissioners (DCs), Titu emphasized the need for vigilant monitoring to ensure the proper distribution of goods to the people across the country.
Titu shared this information with reporters following a meeting with DCs on the second day of the DC Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Monday.
The state minister outlined a strategic shift for the TCB, stating that the distribution of TCB products will transition from trucks to permanent shops starting next year. In preparation for Ramadan, plans include the import of 100,000 metric tons of sugar and 50,00,000 metric tons of onions from India.
Addressing concerns about pricing, Titu assured the public, stating, “The price of oil has been reduced by Tk10 to alleviate duty. There is an ample supply of all products ahead of Ramadan, and no price hikes are anticipated for any items.”
As TCB gears up for this ambitious initiative, the move to permanent shops signals a more organized and efficient approach to provide essential items to families in need during the holy month of Ramadan.
