In a decisive move, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) has issued orders to seal 12 restaurants located in the Gawsia Twin Peak building on Sat Masjid Road in Dhanmondi.
Rajuk Executive Magistrate Tazina Sarwar revealed this development after conducting a raid on the building on a Monday afternoon.
The executive magistrate had previously directed the demolition of two structures situated on the building’s roof.
Following the operation, Tajina Sarwar briefed reporters, stating, “This building holds an F-1 category approval, designating it for office use. However, during our inspection, it was observed that only a portion of two floors adhered to the office allocation. Contrary to regulations, the remaining areas housed 12 to 15 restaurants for rent. The Rajuk mobile court conducted the raid due to these blatant violations.”
Clarifying their stance, he added, “Our action is limited to sealing the restaurants.”
This move comes in the wake of a tragic incident on February 29, where 46 individuals, including women and children, lost their lives in a fire at Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road. While 44 bodies have been handed over, two remain at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
In response to the alarming incident, the police initiated raids on restaurants across Dhaka, with Rajuk joining the efforts on Monday.
