A stretch of the Dhaka-Sylhet railway line, extending over 15 feet, experienced bending due to intense heat in Akhaura upazila, Brahmanbaria.
The incident unfolded near Azampur Railway Station during a scorching Sunday afternoon.
Railway workers swiftly responded to the situation, conducting immediate repairs to rectify the bent section, as reported by Assistant Executive Engineer Mehedi Hasan Tareq from Akhaura Railway Station.
Thankfully, the timely intervention prevented any disruption to train movements, with no scheduled trains passing through at the time.
Railway lines are prone to bending under extreme temperatures, with the normal temperature hovering around 30°C. However, various factors can cause the railway line temperature to soar to 40-50°C.
Addressing queries about the incident occurring when the district’s temperature was below 30°C on Sunday, the official explained, “While it may not be exceptionally hot, the railway line can still bend, particularly in curved segments of the tracks.”
Such incidents highlight the vulnerability of railway infrastructure to heat-induced stresses and the importance of proactive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted rail services.
