The information was confirmed by Captain of 14 Armed Police Battalion and Additional DIG MD Iqbal, who stated that the 1,250 Rohingyas from different camps in Ukhiya-Teknaf willingly departed for Chittagong from Ukhiya Degree College grounds, where they will proceed to Bhasan Char by ship. Covered vans were utilized to transport their belongings.
This marks another chapter in the relocation process, with 32,000 Rohingyas having previously moved to Bhasan Char from the Teknaf-Ukhia refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.
The Rohingya crisis unfolded when over 1.1 million Rohingyas from Rakhine state sought refuge in Bangladesh, fleeing forced displacement from Myanmar. Currently residing in refugee camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar, most of these individuals escaped during a brutal crackdown by the Myanmar military in 2017.
